Help and prayer for devastated people of Peshawar

The Church in Wakefield has sent £2,000 to the hospital in Pakistan treating the victims of the suicide bombing of All Saints Church in Peshawar which claimed 80 lives and injured over 120 more.

They have launched an appeal with emergency aid charity, Muslim Hands and a prayer service for the people of Peshawar will be held in St Peter’s Huddersfield on Sunday at 4.00pm.

Wakefield Diocese has international links with Pakistan and the Bishop of Pontefract chairs the Archbishop of Canterbury’s Pakistan Focus Group.

Last night he said: “Our thoughts and prayers are with our brothers and sisters at All Saints Church. The Diocese of Wakefield was able to send £2,000 of emergency money yesterday to help provide much needed medical supplies in the hospital where the injured are being treated.

“We are pleased to join with Muslim Hands to provide funds to help the families of those who were killed and injured. Many of them will be struggling financially.”

Canon Yaqub Masih, an Asian Christian living in Huddersfield said: “Within hours we had sent our contacts in Pakistan to visit the bereaved and the injured in hospital. We have already responded to their request for medicines to treat the injured. We now need to try to help those families who are now suffering as a result of this awful bombing.

“Please join us in prayer this Sunday,” he added.

Cheques should be made payable to 'Wakefield DBF ' at Pakistan Appeal, Church House, 1 South Parade, Wakefield WF1 1LP
