Archdeacons

Archdeacons in Wakefield and Huddersfield Areas.

There are two Archdeacons serving the Huddersfield and Wakefield Episcopal Areas. The Archdeacon of Halifax looks after the episcopal area of Huddersfield. The Archdeacon of Pontefract looks after the episcopal area of Wakefield.

What is a Archdeacon?

An Archdeacon is a source of advice, guidance and support to the Bishop, clergy, churchwardens and the people of the parishes he or she serves. S/he admits churchwardens into office each year at the annual Visitation and ensures that parishes look after their church buildings. S/he is also involved with the appointment of parish clergy and in their ministry review, and sits on many of the key committees of the diocese.
