Statutory Inspection of Anglican Schools (SIAS)

In Section 48 of the Education Act 2005, the governing body or foundation governors of Church of England schools are responsible in law for the appointment, after consultation with the Diocese, of a person to undertake the inspection of denominational education and collective worship in schools which have a religious character. (From SIAS Framework, National Society)

The principle objective of the inspection is to evaluate the distinctiveness and effectiveness of the school as a Church of England School.

The SIAS inspection is normally held within eight weeks of the Ofsted inspection, and the subsequent report provides a different but complementary perspective on Church of England schools in relation to Ofsted's findings. Click here to find Ofsted Inspection reports.

The key characteristic of the SIAS Inspection is the focus on the effect of the Christian ethos of the church school on the learner.
