Wakefield Diocese employs two part-time Family Life Officers, Lisa Senior and Liz Morton, who are part of the Church of England’s FLAME network, which seeks to promote understanding and the creative nurturing of relationships, for the enrichment of all.

Broad Aims:

  • Promoting family life within the context of Christian marriage and relationships
  • Exploring family Life in the new millennium

 

What the officers do:

Work with Clergy and lay people in parishes, particularly supporting :

  • Marriage Preparation
  • Parenting Initiatives – both Lisa and Liz have certificates for level 3 accreditation in Parenting Group Facilitation from the London Open College Network
  • Baptism (with under 5’s Adviser)
  • Providing resources to promote aspects of family life
  • Facilitate regular Parenting Courses at New Hall Prison – supported by volunteers from The Mother’s Union
  • Diocesan training providers for a variety of family and relationship-related issues including: Family, Church and Community, Sexual ethics in a time of moral uncertainty, Poverty.

 

Training Opportunities

Family Matters
A four-session course which explores the changes in contemporary marriage and family life. Topics include changes and pressures in family life, marriage and cohabitation and singleness. Dates and venues arranged according to demand.
