All Age Worship

Books of Lectionary based service ideas, sermon and talk suggestions. Copies of the series ‘Telling Tales’ by Dave Hopwood – a superb way of telling a parable in a slightly different way. Together with our Collective Worship section you should find something to inspire you.

 

Arts & Crafts
Books crammed full of easy to do crafts for all ages. Templates and tips to make craft making simple, as well as many craft stamps for making cards and presents. Also craft materials to buy from our shop at the Wakefield Resource Centre.

Baptism

Books covering services and working with new families. Information on the role of Godparents & Parents. Copies of the DVD & video ‘First Steps’ published by CPAS and even a Baptism cube – a unique way of showing the service to children. Also for sale from Wakefield, copies of ‘First Steps’ plus Baptism certificates, Godparent certificates, Baptism candles, cubes and Bibles.

 

Bibles

Copies of all the ‘usual’ Bibles plus less common versions, including The Word on the Street (book or CD), Dramatised Bible – right through to the Under 5 Bible – Me Too! We can order Bibles for you to purchase.

 

Bible Background
Reference books can be boring, but not at our Resource Centres. The books are colourful, very informative and hopefully there to answer all your questions. Also at Wakefield - models of a town at the time of Jesus.

 

Bible Reading Notes
Mainly for children at the moment, these are suitable for using at home. Sample copies of the magazine ‘Topz’ – an excellent resource that can be subscribed to. Topz has a gang of friends exploring their Christian faith through Bible readings, puzzles and prayers.

Celtic
Books of Celtic prayers but also Celtic resources to make and their origins.

 

Child Protection
Under the guidance of Rev Dick Swindell this section has up to date guidance that every parish needs to know for Child Protection. Difficult subjects covered with easy to understand resources.

 

Children's story books

Three sections of delightful story books, to read aloud or alone for children aged 4 – 10. Some of the books are classics, some are funny, some are just a delight to sit down and read yourself! They have been chosen with themes in mind and we are happy to help you locate a suitable one.

 

Christmas

Not only books for services, study courses, crafts, stories, music, and nativity plays, but also larger items to make your Christmas service sparkle! Large donkeys, sheep, lambs, Christingles, nativity clothes, knitted, plastic, & Posada nativity figure sets for travelling cribs, carol song rolls, videos, DVDs and much more.
Most items need pre-booking. The earlier the better. Bookings taken from either Resource Centre but collection and returns must be made to Wakefield.

 

Collective Worship
Formerly known as ‘Assemblies’ this section has a wonderful selection of quick and easy ideas. See also - All Age Worship section.

 

Communion & Confirmation

Ideas, discussion materials and suggestions. Books to work in groups and individually. Communion Cubes and two Communion sets including mini Communion table, sacraments and workbooks to help explain the Eucharist to children. New for 2007 are child-sized vestments and sacraments in our Christianity Boxes. The Christianity Boxes were put together by the Children & Youth team and are available for loan. Bookings taken from either Resource Centre but collection and returns must be made to Wakefield.

 

Craft Resources

Everything from glue, papers and lollipop sticks to stickers, pom poms and clay. Click here for a range of ready made craft idea packs available from the Wakefield Resource Centre.

 

 

Creation & Harvest
Books and topic boxes with tried and tested ideas from parishes. Also 'Bodge plants a seed' - book + visual aids. Bookings taken from either Resource Centre but collection and returns must be made to Wakefield.

 

Death & Grief
Sensitive books to either lend or buy for children and families. Waterbugs & Dragonflies is one of the best.

 

Drama Scripts
Along with the Telling Tales series held in our All Age Worship category, this section has books covering a myriad of different themes. Using our Resource Centre computers we can locate individual sections within these books. Also two puppet theatres and large mouthed puppets available for loan from Wakefield. Easter & Lent

Resources for Lent and Easter. Ideas for Junior Church, crafts, services and prayers. Also resources for Good Friday activity days. Display copies of Lent study materials are held mainly at the Mirfield Resource Centre. Bulk purchase orders taken.
Large donkeys available to book from either Resource Centre but collection and returns must be made to Wakefield. Crown of thorns and topic boxes with tried and tested ideas from parishes. Also large wooden crosses and knitted Last Supper sets.

 

Education & Schools
Resources are carefully chosen by our Education Advisor. Teaching and planning resources. Spiritual, social and moral issues. Information and teaching resources about other faiths. Topic boxes on Judaism, Islam, Hinduism, Sikhism and Christianity containing beautiful artefacts with full explanation. Bookings taken from either Resource Centre but collection and returns must be made to Wakefield. Schools are welcome to borrow these items which can be borrowed for longer than the usual monthly loan time.

 

Evangelism
A large section in both Resource Centres. Covers Church Growth, Nurturing, Personal Evangelism and preparing for Mission. Also resources to run a Labyrinth in your own church.

 

FLAME - Family Life & Marriage Enrichment
Resources include Parenting courses and issues, Marriage Preparation and Support, Support for Family Life.

 

Games & Quizzes
Ice-breakers, themed games. Bible quiz books. Also see Youth and Large Games.

Junior Church - Lectionary and non-lectionary based material
Lectionary based schemes for all ages of Junior Church plus display copies of weekly subscription magazines e.g. Roots, Light. Ideas for Junior Church not based on the Lectionary. Ideas for discussion, games, crafts and prayers.

 

Labyrinth
Resources to run a Labyrinth in your own church: CD players, CDs, Videos, Labyrinth designs, stones and ideas. Pre-booking necessary. Bookings taken from either Resource Centre but collection and returns must be made to Wakefield. See on-line Labyrinth.

 

Large Items - Games and Equipment
Housed in the Church House cellar, the following items are available for loan free of charge but need pre-booking. Bookings taken from either Resource Centre but collection and returns IN GOOD ORDER must be made to Wakefield.

 

Large Animals:
Lambs, sheep, donkeys. Small soft hand puppets, Bean bag animals.

 

 

 

 

Large Christingles:
Approximately two feet in diameter, these come on a wooden stand. Separate box containing red ribbon, large candle and wooden 'sweets' on sticks! Book early. These are very popular.

 

 

Large Creche and Children's Corner Boxes:
Boxes of books for Under 5's. Boxes of books and puzzles for over 5's. Available on a 3 month loan from Wakefield Resource Centre.

 

Large Flags:
80 flags in four colours, suitable for celebrations and services.

 

Large Games:
Connect 4, Jenga, Pick up sticks, Flower Twister (similar to Twister but on a garden-creation theme), Snakes & Ladders, Ludo, Play your cards right, Giant foam dice.

Teddy Horsley

A great favourite in the Diocese. Small and very large books, as well as story bags for under 5’s with ready-made visuals. Also Teddy Horsley games, Teddies (including Betsy Bear), and even adult sized teddy costumes which can be pre-booked from Wakefield. (A small cleaning charge is made.)

 

Under 5's
A section full of little story books, prayer ideas, songs, music, and leaders resources. We also stock topic boxes on Noah’s Ark, Teddy Horsley, All about me, Creation in addition to a soft farm set, games and activities and much much more.

 

 

New arrivals for under 5's include a Seasons Hanging, Alphabet blocks with Christian themes, free play church blocks, a memory game as well as wooden disciples, boat and table. The topic boxes etc are located in Wakefield. Also song boxes and musical instrument boxes available for loan.
