Prayer and Spirituality

The aim of the Prayer and Spirituality Group is to encourage all in the Diocese in the development and growth of their spiritual life.

The group's objectives are:

  • to provide opportunities for people to pray (and to pray in ways which are new to them)
  • to provide spiritual direction for those who wish to have it
  • to train people in ways of praying and helping others to pray and
  • to explore new ways of encouraging prayer and our relationship with God both inside and outside of the church.

The group does this by:

  • Arranging Quiet Days - see Events Diary for more details.
  • Arranging Quiet Days for Clergy - see Events Diary for more details.
  • Running courses in spirituality as requested by parishes. Journeying On: exploring personal spirituality and Opening Windows: four spiritual traditions. See Learning and Training for more details.
  • Maintaining a list of spiritual directors and providing support for them. If you would like to think about having a spiritual director or companion speak to your parish priest or contact Revd Mildred Butterworth or Revd James Allison.
  • Providing training within the Wakefield Ministry Scheme.

Chair: Revd Mildred Butterworth  on  01484 421375.

Secretary: Deidre Morris on 01924 369437.

Retreats

Going on a retreat or quiet day can be a helpful way to make time for God. It is often possible to arrange this at a retreat house. Click here to find details of the Retreat Association, a national ecumenical organisation and some retreat places within reasonable traveling distance of Wakefield Diocese.
