Wakefield Diocesan Drama Committee
This is a group which has been in existence for a great many years. The acting wing of the group, The Pamela Kiely Players, is named in memory of Pamela Kiely who was very active in promoting drama within the Church during the last half of the twentieth century. She was employed in this capacity by Bradford, Wakefield and Ripon dioceses and directed a great many memorable performances. She was a remarkable, dynamic woman and is remembered with great fondness by all who knew her.
The group puts on plays about twice a year. We have no home theatre and rely on churches inviting us to perform. The usual pattern is a small tour, mainly within the diocese, but there have been forays to Whitby, Durham, Nottingham, Derbyshire and North Yorkshire.
One strategy that is being explored is that of performing to groups that have already gathered for educational purposes or for conferences. There have been excellent responses to our performances from the Northern Ordination Course, and Wakefield Ministry Schemes day events. We are very keen that we should be used in this way and offer our services for group meetings, courses and conferences. We will write and produce plays for specific events, issues, celebrations, but obviously we need plenty of time for such projects.
From time to time we hold workshops for anyone interested in drama.
